The Honda manufacturing company of Japan is known for producing cars, motorcycles and power equipment. Formed in 1937 from one man’s (Soichiro Honda) desire to turn his passion for racing cars into a business met the investment might of Takeo Fujisawa. Accord

When the Accord was first introduced in the mid-1970s it was classed as a compact car, in 1989 it was reclassed as a mid-size car. In the USA the car has also been sold as the Acura TSX packed full of the premium options as standard

Civic

Since its introduction in the early-1970s, the Civic has achieved amazing sales within the subcompact and then compact car classes. It has also been the platform for many off-shoots including the CRX, Prelude and CR-V lines

Clarity

Starting life as a hydrogen-fuel-cell-powered car, the Clarity was eventually expanded to be available as a hybrid or gasoline-driven in 2017. This helped broaden its appeal and the Civic-based model increased in sales

CR-V

The CR-V was one of the first crossover SUVs n the market, making its debut in the mid-1990s. Over the years it has moved away from being a utilitarian model to now being packed full of comfort and safety features helping sales considerably

CR-Z

The CR-Z was intended to be the new version of the hugely popular CRX offshoot of the Civic in the 1980s. Unfortunately due to its less than exciting performance it only attracted fans due to its impressive fuel economy and was discontinued in 2016

The Honda e is the quirky little all-electric supermini from the Japanese automaker based on the retro design of the original Civic from the 1970s. It is marketed to the Japanese and European markets due to its small size

Element

The Element was a compact SUV that used a modified version of the CR-Vs chassis. It had features that made it ideal for activities and transporting canines including stain-resistant seating and easily cleaned plastic floors

Fit

The Fit is also known as the Jazz in some regions and is classed as a supermini car. Production began in 2001 and in 2010 a hybrid version was made available that captured lost energy during braking and recycled it during acceleration

HR-V

Following on from the CR-Vs huge success, Honda decided to introduce the slightly smaller HR-V several years later in 1998. Over the years the model has been improved with many comfort and safety features that have helped sales grow year-on-year

Insight

Originally the Insight was a mild-hybrid electric car that beat the Prius to market by only months. Unfortunately due to its 2-doors design it never really took off. Modern examples of the car are based on the popular Civic platform

Odyssey

The Odyssey is seen as the first compact MPV and first entered the US market in 1995. You can also find the car on the roads in some regions as an Isuzu as the company rebranded a bunch of the models with the same name or as the Shuttle

Passport

When the first Passport models were made available in the 1990s they were essentially rebadged Isuzus. When the nameplate was revived in 2018 it was an in-house manufactured crossover SUV built on the pilot platform

Pilot

Introduced in 2002, the Honda Pilot is a mid-size crossover SUV that shares its platform with the Odyssey and Acura MDX. Modern versions of the car are offered with a 9-speed automatic transmission and a variety of trims such as the Black Edition

Ridgeline

A crossover SUV-based pickup truck, the Ridgeline was originally built on the Acura MDX platform but in recent years it shares its chassis with the Honda Pilot. Thanks to lower-weight materials and improvements in the design the newer car has a much better power-to-weight ratio

About Honda

The firm was run for many years by Mr. Honda until Toyota took a 40% controlling share in the company at the start of the second world war and he got demoted.

Honda has held the record for producing the most motorcycles in the world since 1959

The company released its first car in 1963 after dominating the motorcycle market worldwide. The Honda T360 was a small pickup truck and won the appraisal of traders everywhere who didn’t want a big bulky truck that would struggle on the tight Japanese mountains.

The range of cars Honda offer contains many well-known models that have been updated each decade. Models such as the affordable super-car NSX and S2000 bring reliable sports car performance to the masses.

Mass-produced general cars such as the Civic and Accord are common sights all around the world. These cars have done well due to their competitive price and low maintenance costs.
