About The 2

The fully electric Polestar 2 was first released in 2020 and remains on sale today. This marks the second model to be sold under Volvo’s luxury offshoot brand.

Built on top of the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform, the 5-door liftback is powered by either front-motor front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive courtesy of dual motors.

Of course, the model strongly hints at its primary competition: the Tesla Model 3. This is true for most compact executive EVs lately. Other notable rivals in the fully-electric class include the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and BMW i4.

Powertrain options consist of either single-motor or dual-motor options. While the single motor is available with Standard Range and Long Range batteries, the dual motor is limited to only the Limited Range.

Power outputs from these motor options are either 231 hp or 300 hp or 172 kW and 224 kW respectively. However, Polestar has released an optional Performance Pack software upgrade that will boost the higher-spec to 469 hp. This means the roughly 2,110 kg car will be catapulted to 100 km/h from a standstill in about 4.3 seconds.

The estimated ranges of 297 miles and 341 miles for the single motor options and 301 miles for the dual motor option are provided by 69 kWh and 78 kWh batteries.

Charging is provided by the 130 or 150 kW DC charging for the two batteries, or 11 kW AC charging for both.

Trim options consist of either the Pilot or the Plus packages, with the latter being the premium option.

The model underwent a recall in 2020 because of a software issue that resulted in a loss of power when driving.
