Skoda nameplates have made a name for themselves by being some of the most practical options in their categories. Hence, it is no surprise that the brand’s first seven-seater will attract significant attention. However, the Kodiaq’s claim to fame is more than just its number of seats.

The 2023 Skoda Kodiaq is a king of optionality, beginning with the seat row number, which can be scaled down to two on the base model to provide the characteristic abundance of interior and cargo space, one of Skoda’s trademarks.

Up from there, the seven-seat models are limited by the vehicle’s middle-of-the-park dimensions and, as such, only offer average roominess for this market segment. The third row in these units will be pretty cramped for adults and is better left to cater exclusively to children. Nevertheless, you do get generous helpings of legroom and headroom in the first two rows, albeit paired with fairly average cargo hold dimensions.

Skoda also does a decent job of outfitting the interior with sturdy materials, excellent build quality, and trusty controls that lend themselves well to use while moving. While the 2023 Kodiaq’s interior isn’t the most luxurious on the block, the top trims do a great job of enhancing comfort, featuring options like perforated leather upholstery with in-built cooling and heating, doubly-stitched seats, 12-way adjustable power seats, aesthetic ambient lighting, chrome door inserts, and a majestic 625-watt 12-speaker stereo system with an included subwoofer.

Powertrain options are equally as generous, with three TSI gasoline engines and two TDI diesel options available.

The base engine is a 148-horsepower 1.5-liter mild-hybrid that pairs with a 7-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The more powerful 187-HP 2-liter and 242-liter options also come mated with the same automatic gearbox, but only the most potent engine can come with 4-wheel drive.

The diesel options are a 148-horsepower 2-liter and a 197-HP 2-liter paired with the same automatic gearbox.
