About The Meriva
In 2003 production of the Opel Meriva began at plants in the UK and Argentina.
It was initially classed (the Meriva A) as a mini MPV and shared the same platform as the Corsa compact car.
This essentially made it a Corsa with a much taller body and features inside that helped occupants get the most out of the space.
You could move the second row of seating backwards or forwards as well as lay it flat to transport larger or bulkier cargo.
In South America, this version of the car was sold as the Chevrolet Meriva all the way up until 2013.
For the 2010 model year, the Meriva B was introduced to European markets while South America continued to get the first model.
It was still built on the Corsa base but due to its increase in size the Meriva B was classed as a compact MPV now.
The new car made us suspension parts and a floorplan from the Zafira – it even had backwards-hinged rear doors for easier access.
Engine choices were not as vast as the first model but did offer better fuel efficiency, especially when paired with the new 6-speed automatic gearbox.
It was eventually replaced by the subcompact crossover SUV the Crossland X in 2017 due to changes in consumer tastes.
