The 9-3 from Saab replaced the popular 900 model from the same Swedish automaker in 1998. It was built on the tried and tested GM 2900 platform that it shared with the Opel Vectra, Vauxhall Calibra and Cadillac BLS

The first generation 9-5 was a hugely popular line for Saab during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Shortly after the release of the second generation in 2010, the company went bankrupt although some felt it was the saving grace for the automaker
