With many of the foremost fully-electric nameplates focusing on maximizing battery range, providing futuristic interiors, and incorporating as much automation as possible, the Porsche Taycan, true to the brand ethos, offers an alternative route that instead throws most of its chips into providing the most exciting driving performance possible.

The Porsche Taycan is a low-slung, expertly-tuned speedster that brings everything there is to love about Porsche’s sports cars, presenting them in an elegant four-door battery-powered package (Porsche also produces a wagon version of the Taycan, which it offers as the Taycan Cross Turismo/Sport Turismo.) While this nameplate will not give you the best EPA estimated range, your driving fun is guaranteed.

With the 2023 model, the Taycan stays true to this model, carrying over almost everything from the previous year’s release.

The significant change that comes with the 2023 Taycan also affects all previous models. Porsche has announced a significant update to the algorithm that runs the vehicle’s battery charging and power management, which the company says will significantly increase the nameplate’s charging speeds and range.

Other notable changes exclusive to this year’s model include a revamp of the massive 16.8-inch curved infotainment unit that adds output-type--filtered searches of nearby charging stations, Android Auto support, and a more intuitive and vibrant user interface.

Regarding powertrain options, most trims of the 2023 Taycan are pleasantly overpowered. Only the base model features a single rear motor, and even that base unit produces an ample 402 horsepower (up to 460 HP with the optional performance upgrade that adds a bigger battery.)

Up from there, you get significantly higher-powered all-wheel drive setups, with the setup on the 4S trim producing between 522 and 562 horsepower, the one on the Turbo making 670 HP, and the setup on the Turbo entering ridiculous territory with a 750-horsepower output.
