The Tahoe and Suburban from Chevrolet knows its target audience and does not try to market itself to anybody else. This range of three-row vehicles positions itself as an excellent choice for big families, especially ones that would also need to tow the occasional RV or boat while offering a varied enough trim suite to cater to a broad spectrum of budgets.

The Suburban takes this practicality-first approach a step further by bringing an even longer wheelbase that consequently provides a larger cargo space as well as enhanced roominess in the third row, making it more tenable to occupation by adults.

The exterior styling that is offered with both nameplates is not exactly a crowd pleaser (and that doesn’t change with this year’s release,) but that hasn’t stopped them from receiving continued positive market reception, unsurprising when you consider that most buyers looking at these options will have space and functionality at the top of their lists.

Things remain mostly the same elsewhere, too, with most of the changes to the new Tahoe (that aren’t a shuffling of the features and enhancement packages available across trims) being cosmetic, including new color options and a new optional black front grille that ditches the traditional Chevrolet logo, instead spelling out the automaker name in block letters. The Suburban carries over unchanged.

Aside from the difference in length, both nameplates are mechanically identical.

Every Tahoe and Suburban trim has three rows of seats and up to eight passengers. A dedicated off-road trim, the Z71 tags on an adjustable air suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and all-terrain tires significantly enhance the driving profile on this giant that already drives way smoother than you would expect on vehicles this size.

Under the hood, the 2023 Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban brings enough power to match its mass, with the base engine being a V8 that produces 355 horsepower. Alternatively, you can opt for the higher-powered 42-horsepower V8. Chevrolet also offers a diesel engine option for the first time, with a turbocharged inline-six making 277 HP.
