The Hyundai i20 is the brand’s entry into the affordable small, city hatchback category, one which is hotly contested by popular offerings like the Volkswagen Polo and Ford Fiesta.

This market segment typically focuses on producing practical and sensible cars that focus more on the fundamentals, and that is precisely what the i20 has perfected for years, offering a decent, competitively priced alternative to the class leaders.

However, this year, the new Hyundai i20 has a few new aesthetic tricks up its sleeve. Updates to the car’s exterior see the nameplate take on a revamped, more aggressive styling profile, bringing its previously mundane and understated silhouette closer to what you find on contemporary iterations of other top-rated competitors.

While the new i20 now looks at home amongst the current crop of market leaders, compared to its older iterations, the changes on the 2023 i20 seem wild, almost giving it the profile of a brand-new car.

The most noticeable of these changes is the reimagining of the front grille, which gives it a slimmer figure that sits flush with the sharp, angular headlights. Matching this theme is the abundance of sharp lines and creases around the sides and front of the vehicle that combine to give it a significantly more sporty character.

The revamp also extends to the interior with the introduction of differently-textured cabin materials, new vivid color options to match the vehicle’s new wilder skin, and a digital gauge cluster and infotainment unit that have grown in size.

Things remain the same in other departments, though, with the 2023 Hyundai i20 offering the same abundance of leg and headroom for all passengers (for a car its size,) decent levels of comfort, and a sufficiently adjustable driver seat.

The sole engine option is a 100-horsepower turbocharged 1-liter three-cylinder that you can pair with either a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic or a six-speed manual gearbox.
