The Telluride is one of the most competitive nameplates produced by Kia, easily appearing near the top of most ranking lists for vehicles in the mid-size SUV market segment.

However, an SUV that big isn’t for everyone, and that is why the Kia Sorento offers a slightly smaller, more affordable, and more fuel-efficient option with most of the perks of its larger cousin. The 2023 Kia Sorento stays true to that formula, offering you a more tenable version of the new Telluride.

Similar to the more prominent SUV, the 2023 Kia Sorento features three-seat rows, albeit with a much smaller third row that is exclusively for kids. Nevertheless, the Sorento retains the same spacious, comfortable middle and front seat rows.

Furthermore, many niceties, such as choice leather seats, temperature-controlled front and back seats, integrated ambient lighting, and a responsive 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit are present here as options, too.

The Sorento also inherits a similar clean, spaceship-esque layout, plush, luxurious materials, and superior build quality.

Under the hood, the 2023 Sorento ships with a broad range of powertrain options, some of which pack enough oomph to impress more than a few performance enthusiasts.

The base engine is a 2.5-liter inline-four-cylinder engine that outputs a decent 191 HP. However, if you want to take things up a notch, a 281-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder alternative is available too. Both engine options ship standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission

Prefer even more fuel efficiency? Kia also offers two hybrid powertrain options: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo engine that pairs with an electric motor to produce a combined 227 HP and another configuration that pairs the same engine with a larger motor to output 261 horsepower and adds all-wheel drive as standard. The other three engines are available with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.
