SUVs present a problem for hardcore performance enthusiasts. While they may pack internal bits with enough oomph to match trusty sports sedans, this rarely translates perfectly to the road.

Most SUVs' heavier weight and awkward dimensions usually detract from their overall performance quotient. The Porsche Cayenne fixes that.

For when you can avoid the switch to an SUV for practicality reasons, the Cayenne offers some of the most capable driving experience you can get in the class, offering class-topping graceful movement and the exciting road manners that are arguably the most significant selling point of Porsche SUVs.

After perfecting its formula over the last half-decade, the Porsche Cayenne returns primarily unchanged for this year, with the only notable adjustment being changes in the available suite of paint jobs. Elsewhere, the 2023 Cayenne retains the winning mix of boisterous powertrains, impressive towing ability, and sports-sedan-level driving character.

Under the hood, even the base engine, a 335-horsepower turbocharged V-6, packs enough aggressiveness to satisfy the needs of most of the population. However, knowing Porsche, it is no surprise that things ramp up quickly from there. The mid-tier engine is the 434-horsepower twin-turbocharged V-6 engine that comes with the Cayenne S trim while selecting the range-topping Cayenne GTS ups the onboard power further by switching to a twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that produces a ridiculous 460 horsepower.

Alternatively, you can opt for the plug-in hybrid option, which is on par with the top engine, producing 455 horsepower but with significantly enhanced fuel efficiency (at least compared to the other Cayenne engines.)

Irrespective of which powertrain or trim you pick, you are treated to all-wheel drive and Porsche’s shrewd eight-speed automatic transmission, completely an unfailing setup that can handle whatever you throw at it.

The 2023 Porsche Cayenne also boasts an impressive 7700-pound max towing capacity, dramatically boosting its practicality department credentials.
