At first glance, the Eclipse Cross’s aggressive style hints at a high-performance driving experience, especially considering that it is named after the legendary Mitsubishi Eclipse sport compact sedan. However, the Eclipse Cross does not have the oily bits to match this overly macho styling, as the compact SUV rocks a pretty mundane setup underneath it.

Under the hood are the same four-cylinder engines from last year, both of which no automobile enthusiast is excited to ride. However, they do get the job done, driving smoother than most other powertrains featuring engines of this class.

The base engine on the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is a 1.5-liter inline-four turbocharged unit that pairs with a continuously variable automatic transmission (with eight simulated gear ratios) to output variable horsepower production depending on region. Australian models of the Eclipse Cross with this engine produce 148 HP, while their North American counterparts output a higher 152 HP.

Optional powertrain upgrades include the same 1.5-liter engine tuned to produce 161 horsepower or a different 2.0-liter inline-four engine.

While the standard drive system for the new Eclipse Cross is all-wheel drive, Mitsubishi also offers limited front-wheel-drive models paired with a six-speed manual transmission in select regions.

Elsewhere, the 2024 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross comes with barely any changes to the formula, with the most notable changes to the lineup being the standard options that come with select trims.

The LE trim now features a push-button start and keyless entry as standard. Also, it gets an included two-year free trial of the Mitsubishi app (with the included roadside assistance and safety services.) The mid-level SE trim sees the most changes, with a leather-covered steering wheel, a power liftgate, adaptive cruise control, and an additional USB port for the rear seat added as standard offerings.
