2024 Outback
Subaru’s claim to fame is their continued legacy of producing unpretentious, reliable, durable, and practical cars that drive easily. None of their models captures this ethos better than the Outback, which returns this year as this 2024 model.
Subaru now uses the Outback nameplate on a vehicle that was first derived from its original Outback station wagon. Subaru raised the suspension on their signature station wagon to create an SUV-esque absurdity that quickly gained traction—and with it gaining more SUV-style profile and features over the years; it has become quite popular in today's SUV-biased market.
With the 2024 Subaru Outback, the model remains essentially unchanged, retaining the matter-of-fact approach that characterizes the lineup. This unique offering does the job better than most SUVs while bringing the added comfort and practicality that comes with a station wagon spirit.
The only significant aesthetic change to this year’s release is the minor update to the front bumper and girl of the most extreme Wilderness trim.
The Outback inherits most of its interior profile from the Legacy station wagon, featuring a quality build and promising comfortable accommodations. While the cabin lacks charm and glamor, its functionality speaks directly to its target audience. You get a high seating height with superior visibility, spacious seat placement with both the front and back seats, and an elaborate 33-cubic-feet cargo area that exhibits its station wagon character.
Upgrading beyond the base trim adds other comfort features like heated front seats, power-adjustability on the driver’s seat, dual-zone climate control, a proliferation of USB ports, and optional upgrades like front seat ventilation, a heated steering wheel, and power-adjustability to the front passenger seat.
The standard powertrain on this 2024 Subaru Outback is an 182-horsepower 2.5-liter flat-four, while an optional upgrade to a turbocharged 2.4-liter that outputs a healthy 260 horsepower is available. Both units come paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission and the standard all-wheel-drive system that comes with most Subaru releases.
