2023 X3
BMW’s strong brand image has been fueled for decades by their high-performance sports sedans that drive better and create a more enjoyable pavement experience than most competition in every weight class.
However, in recent years, BMW’s range of SUVs has attracted as much acclaim and recognition, a fact championed by the masterclass that the latest version of its small luxury SUV, the 2023 BMW X3, is.
From the name, it is easy to decipher that the X3 is a crossover version of BMW’s famous 3-series sedan. However, the similarities do not stop at the name. This four-door SUV mirrors the powertrain lineup of the sedans, offering the same satisfying mix of boisterous engines, extremely refined handling, and a balanced, athletic driving profile that places BMW models at the top of the lists of many who like to drive for fun.
The entry-level engine that ships with the sDrive30i and the X3 xDrive30i models is a 2-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 248 horsepower and pairs with an 8-speed automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes and steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The xDrive30i features all-wheel-drive, while the sDrive30i is the rear-wheel-drive option.
However, if you seek even more performance, the M40i models are your obvious choice, as they pack significantly more power. Here, an even more zestful 382-horsepower 3-liter inline-six-cylinder engine is the centerpiece, pairing with an 8-speed Sport automatic transmission with Sport and Manual shift modes, steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and Launch Control.
With this nameplate undergoing a light aesthetic update last year, the company barely made any exterior or cabin changes to the 2023 BMW X3. New for the year is the addition of the remote proximity keyless entry system—previously only available on range-topping trims—as a standard offering on all models.
