Ford discontinued one of its bestsellers, the illustrious Fiesta supermini, just in time for the new kid on the block, the Ford Puma, to shine.

First introduced in 2019, the Puma shares the same platform as the outgoing seventh-generation Fiesta, albeit in a subcompact crossover body. In today’s SUV-crazed market, there are no surprises there.

Currently, everything with sufficient ground clearance and a decent price tag is already halfway to being a bestseller, and the Puma keys into this trend while maintaining everything that was excellent about the fiesta.

With five years of good performance under its belt—especially in the European market—Ford is revamping the Puma with a mid-cycle refresh that brings minor upgrades to the cabin and exterior style of the vehicle. There is also speculation that the 2024 Ford Puma may feature a slight update to the powertrains and include a new battery-powered variant.

Critical updates to the exterior include a re-patterned grille, changes to the lower front bumper, and refreshed front and back lighting sets. You also get new, more extensive wheel options available. Inside, the changes are cosmetic, with repositioning of the air vents and the potential for a new steering wheel and modified center console.

We expect less variation still in the powertrain department. The engine options from last year are a 168-horsepower 1-liter three-cylinder piece that pairs with a seven-speed automatic transmission and a more powerful 197-horsepower 1.5-liter alternative with a more trusty six-speed manual transmission. Both powertrain options are only available with front-wheel drive.

Barring any last-minute changes, we expect both options to carry over to this year’s model, with the possibility of the engines being tuned to produce a bit more horsepower.
