With the best-selling vehicle in both the United States and Canada being a full-size pickup, it is immediately apparent that these trucks are a staple of the North American continent. Hence, it is no surprise that they are also a hotly contested market segment.

The GMC Sierra 1500 has been a top contender in this category over the past few years, and the new 2024 model aims to shore up its place further.

However, it isn’t hard to conceive that Sierra 1500 won’t lose its high-ranking sport any time soon, seeing this GMC pickup shares the same build as a major contender for the top spot, the Chevrolet Silverado.

Underneath all of the exterior finishing, the GMC Sierra 1500 and the Chevy Silverado are the exact same truck, sharing everything from mechanical prowess to cab styles and bed length options. Hence, we can always expect these trucks to rank near each other both in performance and customer appeal.

Similar to the Chevrolet, GMC’s Sierra 1500 for 2024 offer a variety of bed lengths that range between 5.8 and 8.2 feet. Matching cab styles are available, too, with single cab, double cab, and four-door crew cab formats. Optional modifications to the storage area include an exclusive cargo bed with carbon fiber reinforcements available on the highest-end trims and a handy tailgate that offers multiple configurations to match each intended use case.

Engine options are as robust as you would expect on any popular American full-size pickup. You get your choice of four different engines: a base 2.7-liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit that outputs 310 horsepower, a significantly more powerful 355-horsepower 5.3-liter V-8, a grander 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 420 horsepower, and a six-cylinder Duramax diesel option that produces 460 pound-feet of torque.

While the base engine has an eight-speed automatic transmission, the three higher-powered engines pair with 10-speed automatics. All four powertrains can be had with either rear-wheel or four-wheel drive.
