With declining demand for sedans, as more consumers switch to SUVs and crossovers for their higher seating position, larger cargo space, and better off-road capability, trusty sedans like the Accent may not live to see another generation.

However, while it lasts, Hyundai has pulled all the stops to provide a refreshed and inviting Accent to provide hot competition for its subcompact SUVs like the Creta and Kona.

For this release, the Hyundai Accent—known as the Hyundai Verna in some markets—adopts the sporty design language that appears across the brand’s newest lineup, featuring compound LED headlights that stretch across the entire bumper and integrate seamlessly into the parametric grille design. The car’s rear also features a similar full-length light bar.

A recurrent issue many buyers have with the Accent is its tiny wheels, and that only changes a little here. The standard offering is 15-inch wheels while range-topping models' most prominent option is only 16 inches.

The Accent also features the same modern “floating” instrument panel design on other new Hyundai models. The Accent offers a 10.25-inch high-definition touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and a fantastic 8-speaker Bose sound system. The digital gauge cluster is simple but functional (like in the Hyundai Stargazer).

The Accent offers two different engine options, both with 1.5-liter displacement.

The standard engine is naturally aspirated, delivering 115 horsepower and 144 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that powers the Creta and Stargazer models. You can choose between a 6-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) for this engine.

The other option is a turbocharged engine that produces 160 horsepower and 253 Nm of torque. In addition to being more powerful and responsive than the standard offering, this engine can be paired with the standard 6-speed manual or an upgraded 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for a genuinely superior driving experience.

What to take things further still? This powertrain option also comes equipped with a sport mode that enhances the performance and handling of the Accent.
