Compact sedans are not everyone’s cup of tea, but if they are yours, a few models out on the market today can best the Volkswagen Jetta as an affordable, robust package that brings the best of everything you would expect in this market segment. The 2024 VW Jetta, a minor incremental update, does nothing to jeopardize this status.
The significant change to this year's lineup is the addition of more standard features and furnishings to all the Jetta trims.
The Base S variant gets the most updates with the addition of rain-sensing wipers, a leather gear shift knob, an eco-leather-covered steering wheel, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. The slightly higher Sport trim also sees some new tech with the addition of standard heated front seats.
Another significant change is the standard edition of Volkswagen’s proprietary IQ driving assistance suite to the entire lineup, including the Base S trim. However, add-on features like wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and ambient interior lighting are still reserved for only the highest trims. You can also find this new technology in the 2024 Tiguan, 2024 Golf GTi and several other lines from the German automaker.
The cabin design remains essentially unchanged, with a roomy, contemporary setup that allows plenty of leg and headroom with superior visibility from all seats. The base S only gets cloth seats, while the higher trim features eco-leather options.
Tech setup remains the same for the S, Sport, and SE trims with an unsophisticated 8-inch digital gauge cluster and a 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment unit. At the same time, the premium SEL provides a superior 10.3-inch customizable gauge cluster, a larger 8.0-inch infotainment display, and a beefier 12-speaker stereo system. A subscription-based mobile hotspot is available on all models as well.
You don't get much choice for powertrain across 2024 VW Jetta trims as they all feature the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that brings the best-in-class fuel efficiency that you would expect from a new compact Volkswagen. The standard transmission on offer is a six-speed manual transmission with an optional upgrade to an eight-speed automatic.
