About The Milan

A mid-sized car created by the Mercury division of the Ford Motor Company, the Milan was first shown at the Chicago Auto Show in 2005.

This model takes its name from the city in northern Italy and was the first car to be sold under the Mercury badge since 1995. Made alongside the Ford Fusion in Sonora, Mexico, the Milan was intended to be a reasonably priced entry-level car that sat in between the Mercury Montego and the Mercury Grand Marquis. Available as a 4-door sedan only, this was the very first time that Mercury hadn’t taken one of its cars and offered it as a station wagon since 1940.

Built upon the CD3 Platform created by Ford, the Milan was assembled alongside the Lincoln Zephyr, Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX.

Mercury constructed the car from a solid steel unibody which was only available in a front-wheel drive, although an all-wheel drive chassis was added a year later with a V6 engine. The engine variants included a 2.3-liter 160 bhp and a 175 bhp 2.5-liter.

As the Milan was built upon a Ford platform, it predictably shared the same roof stylings. To distinguish it from its sister cars, the Milan had a standout front and rear end with a grille described by Mercury as a ‘waterfall grille.’

A mid-generation update saw the installation of better safety tech, optional DVD players, an inbuilt satellite navigation system and an auxiliary port.

Six trim levels were available, I4, V6, I4 Premier, V6 Premier, V6 All wheel drive and a V6 Premier AWD.

In 2010 Mercury submitted the Milan for its NCAP safety test in which it faired quite well. Scoring 5 stars for front driver safety, a 5 out of 5 for side driver and in the rollover tests, was awarded 4 stars.
