About The Aygo X

It’s unfortunate that the Toyota Aygo is not made for the US market, and neither is the upcoming Toyota Aygo X, which is earmarked just for the European marketplace. The Aygo was first launched in 2005 as the perfect compact city car competing with the likes of Smart, the Peugeot 108 and the Citroen C1.

The European market is ripe for these cars, thanks to narrow city streets, tough parking, and also new restrictions on emissions levels. The Aygo X takes the concept into a small subcompact crossover model offering the same compact credentials with a bit more utility and possibly extra appeal to those who refuse to go to a certain small size when it comes to cars.

Highlights of the exterior design include the unique front bumper and wheel arch moldings, the wedged roofline, enlarged front grille, one-piece glass liftgate and wing-shaped headlights. Many of these features aren’t just aesthetic, either. The bumper and wheel arches, for instance, are said to help improve fuel economy — another key selling point in Europe with its sky-high gas prices.

The interior offers Toyota’s signature blend of unique lines with an oval-shaped frame around the central 9-inch infotainment system, for instance, and basic, admirable craftsmanship. There is quite a lot of hard plastic, unfortunately, but one might expect that at the affordable price point the Aygo X is expected to fill.

Having said that, it does get the 9-inch touchscreen, wireless device charging, ambient lighting, a digital instrument cluster and heated seats, not to mention the latest version of Toyota Safety Sense (3.0). You can even upgrade to a premium JBL audio system.

The Aygo X is in essence the third-generation Aygo, and the model has been designed to reduce body roll and improve both visibility and ride quality when compared with previous Aygo models. It may only have a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine, but with a base price of around $20,500, it’s hard to argue with the amazing value for money you get.
