About The ID.2

The ID.2 is an upcoming fully-electric compact crossover SUV that is set to join Volkswagen’s EV lineup sometime in 2025. Volkswagen has announced that this model will be their take on an affordable EV.

Of course, with the release being a few years away, there are still a lot of unknowns about the model. This is mainly due to the extensive process Volkswagen has undertaken in producing a budget EV.

The model is likely to be manufactured in Spain alongside SEAT’s performance division, Cupra.

It will reportedly be built on the current all-electric platform used by all EVs under the Volkswagen Group. This MEB architecture is currently used by the Cupra Born, Audi Q4 e-Tron, Skoda Enyaq iV, and a number of Volkswagen ID models.

However, this time around it will use the MEB Entry platform that will be used for all affordable EVs under the VW Group banner.

Like other Volkswagen SUVs, the ID.2 will feature the typical 5-door layout found in other similar offerings from the German manufacturer.

The model is expected to be powered by smaller batteries than its larger EV siblings.

Experts have reported that these could be as small as 30 kWh. This would mean the model could have an estimated range of about 120 miles. Battery options could mean that a larger battery, about 45 kWh, will be offered. This would bump the estimated range for the model up to roughly 220 miles.

Another speculation is that the drivetrain will be either single-motor front-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. However, this is still just speculation at this stage.
