As a joint effort by the German and British teams at Ford the Focus was the combined effort in creating an all-round compact car for all regions.

Previously, compact cars were designed for each region and this required that Ford maintain several lines at once leading to inefficiencies.

First examples of the Focus were delivered to customers in 1999 and several years later a performance trim version was released called the RS.

The RS sported an aggressive look and upgraded parts with a turbo-charged gasoline engine, though this was in Europe only.

The 2008 Ford Focus is a late example of the second generation of design that saw the car grow longer and heavier.

2008 models also benefited from a slight face-lift in 2007 where the grille and bonnet were upgraded to make the car fit in more with the rest of the Ford fleet.

This owner's manual for the 2008 Focus starts with a big chapter explaining the warning lights and their meaning along with gauges.

Afterwards the entertainment system gets explained including the satellite radio, auxiliary input and the USB port if fitted in your model.

Climate controls get a seeing to next, so if you are struggling with the air-conditioning or heating this chapter has diagrams and explanations for both.
