While the Suzuki Vitara does not promise any attractive additional features or trimmings, you can expect a sturdy, affordable small family SUV that gets the job done every time without fuss.

The 2023 Suzuki Vitara—which is built at the Toyota factory in Kirloskar, India, as the result of a partnership between Suzuki and Toyota—continues in this mold, providing a basic small SUV with a distinct, bold exterior that gives off that vintage off-roader appeal.

Inside, the Vitara does not pretend to be anything it isn’t. The cabin feels as cheap as the price tag, with large swathes of hard plastics on the doors and dashboard coated with a shiny, metallic finish that does little to win you over.

The 7-inch infotainment unit, too, looks like an afterthought and fails to dazzle, but it gets the job done, thanks to its easy-to-use control.

However, what the 2023 Suzuki Vitara lacks in pomp, it makes up for with the practicality of its setup. In addition to the default elevated driving position, the Vitara also supports height adjustments on its front seats, guaranteeing a commanding view of the road. The small SUV also packs plenty of space in the cabin and features a bigger cargo section than you get with class competitors like the Honda HR-V and the Peugeot 2008.

The 2023 Suzuki Vitara introduces a new mild-hybrid engine with less gasoline than the previous gas-only engine options.

The previous gasoline engine, a 103-horsepower naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter 4-cylinder unit, reappears here as the standard offering. This unit comes with either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive.

Alternatively, you can opt for the newer mild-hybrid system that adds an electric motor for acceleration assist to the same base engine to help improve fuel efficiency. This engine option comes with a 6-speed automatic transmission with an optional upgrade to Suzuki’s AllGrip all-wheel drive system.
