Compact SUVs (including luxury options) typically get the look down from avid car enthusiasts who often consider them dull. Still, you would be hard-pressed to find anyone applying the same titles to the Porsche Macan. The 2024 Porsche Macan continues the tradition of the models in this lineup, blowing most of the competition in the category out of the water regarding sportiness and performance.

The Porsche Macan has been the benchmark for a few years in the luxury SUV category regarding vibe and performance, so it is no surprise that Porsche does not make any elaborate changes to the model for the new release.

Based on the tried-and-tested Audi Q5, Porsche was able to access a whole host of well-developed parts to use in the model to ensure it offers both reliability and value for money.

The exterior retains the same familiar, unassuming look that does an excellent job of masking the sporty character underneath.

The interior fittings also remain relatively unchained, with bland standard installations that put the Porsche name to shame. If you want to upgrade to the more in-character luxurious interior, such as opting for real leather draping on the dashboard, door insides, and upholstery, expect to meet costs similarly outrageous to what you get with sports supercars. Tighter than usual cabin room and a relatively more minor cargo area also limit the practicality of this SUV, but practicality is never why you buy a Porsche.

In addition to the car’s substantial starting price that sits north of $60k, expect to pay through the nose for every additional upgrade—and with Porsche, you get a near-unlimited list of potential upgrades. The central 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system is more high-tech than most, but many of its features are pay-to-use. Standard features include an assortment of ports and power outlets, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a high-end 10-speaker audio system (available upgrade to a 14-speaker unit). Still, the media unit offers only Apple CarPlay as it doesn’t support Android Auto.

True to the brand, many safety features, including automated braking and adaptive cruise control, are also behind a paywall.

Performance is where the Macan truly stands head and shoulders above the rest.

The base 2024 Porsche Macan is powered by a 2-liter inline-four-cylinder engine turbocharged to produce 261 horsepower. The Macan S trim gives you an even more menacing 375 hp twin-turbo that provides an ample power jump, or you can go straight overkill with the Macan GTS, which houses an engine that outputs 434 hp, which is ridiculous for a car this size.

True to the Porsche brand, you can expect controlled steering and a smooth ride that leans more towards the feel of a sedan-style supercar than a regular SUV.
