For suburban families, the vehicle choice is often between large but typically unfashionable minivans, manageable compact SUVs, or an ample three-row mid-size SUV. For the last category, the 2024 VW Atlas represents a decent competitor to many brands today.

Volkswagen gives the 2024 Atlas an extensive aesthetic makeover, revamping the headlights, front fascia, and wheel designs to create a significantly more stylish look than the previous year’s model. The interior also gets a retouch that improves its aesthetics and ergonomics considerably.

However, for the folks considering the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas, cabin space probably ranks higher than aesthetics on the list of factors influencing your decision, and unsurprisingly, you get plenty of that here.

The large cabin features three well-spaced rows, with the third row being roomy enough to sit full-grown adults easily.

The seven-passenger also ups the ante in terms of comfort to help match the needs of families of all sizes. The interior upgrade features a more upscale trim with significantly less plastic than the previous model. While the VW Atlas is still miles behind more refined segment options like the Mazda CX-90 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, this update helps to bridge the gap incrementally.

Furthermore, you also get a slew of functional comfort features standard, including a proliferation of cup holders, ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a six-speaker sound system, six 45-watt USB-C ports, a wireless charging station, and four more inches on the upgraded infotainment system which now features a 12-inch touch-controlled screen (equipped with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support.)

The powertrain is another section of the car that saw some change. Volkswagen ditched both engine options in the previous year’s model and opted for a unified turbocharged inline-four-cylinder engine rated 269 HP with an eight-speed transmission. Standard units ship with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is available as an optional upgrade.

You also get all the expected standard safety features on the 2024 Volkswagen Atlas, including automated emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, blindspot monitoring, and a forward-collision warning system. Optional features include lane centering and adaptive cruise control.
