The VW ID.4 is Volkswagen’s take on an entry-level five-seater electric SUV. The 2024 edition brings everything you expect from the Volkswagen brand—a stylish but conservative, sturdy, and reliable unit. The 2024 VW ID.4 is a basic, roomy, battery-powered SUV that lends itself perfectly to people switching to electric for the first time.
An exterior look at the 2024 VW ID.4 presents a standard, reasonably unexceptional design that will only turn a few heads. The design has remained largely the same (with minor cosmetic variations) since its debut with the launch of the original 2021 VW ID.4.
If you are looking for the more flashy look typical of many EV offerings today, you won’t find that here. The 2024 VW ID.4's aesthetics are clean, unassuming, and not eye-catching.
The interior has a more familiar Volkswagen feel, with roomy seating (both rows,) extensive headroom, large windows, and leather wrapping on the steering wheel. The posh interior ambient lights added to the ID.4 combine with the sleek upholstery to create a premium ambiance and feel, especially in the dark. Still, some cheap plastic fittings will give it away in daylight.
The media station is a sized-up 12.3-inch (12.9-inch for models with the optional battery upgrade) touchscreen with an updated menu interface and improved controls, voice control, and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration.
Other features include Volkswagen's best-in-class built-in navigation system, which is more intuitive than most, a climate control system with a broad range of varied commands, and other regular driver-aiding features like automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance, automatic parking, and adaptive cruise control.
Powering the 2024 VW ID.4 movement are significantly more powerful electric motors than those in the previous year’s model. The car's single-motor on the rear-wheel drive version outputs 282 hp (the 2023 model only did 201 hp,) while the dual-motor version outputs 330 horsepower. This increased power guarantees faster acceleration and a smooth yet sportier ride than every ID.4 before it.
It is important to note that Volkswagen builds every ID.4 here in the U.S., making the car fully qualified for the $7,500 federal tax credit.
