About The Century

Stretching across 8 decades off production the Buick Century was a line of full-size sedans built and sold all around the world.

The owner’s manuals on this page are a great way to learn about the car, how to maintain it, and what you need to do in order to drive it.

These manuals will show you all the processes that are necessary for owning a Buick Century.

It has diagrams showing where different parts of the vehicle go and provide maintenance tips for each part.

The owner manual’s on this page cover the 2 most recent (and final) generations of design: 5th and 6th.

Eventually, the line was discontinued in 2005 though Buick may bring it back as they have done previously.

Originally the Century was put into production in 1936 during a boom time shortly before the start of World War 2.

The fifth-generation model was released in the early 1980s and reigned until it was redesigned in the mid-1990s, this generation brought a front-wheel-drive chassis to the Century for the first time.

Engine choices were vast and ranged from a 2.2 litre gasoline through to a 4.3 litre diesel power plant mated to a 3 or 4-speed automatic transmission.

Trims were kept simple, buyers were offered a choice of one of the following 5:

  • Custom
  • Estate
  • Limited
  • Special
  • T-Type

With the 6th and final generation hitting the showrooms the car retained its front-wheel-drive layout and a new range of smaller displacement engines for the Chinese market.

A 5-speed manual transmission option was also added for the Chinese market to go along with the 2.0 litre V6 added for that territory.

The station wagon version of the Century was dropped as sales dwindled and buyers flocked to SUVs instead.

To replace the Century and Regal lines and modernize its fleet the Buick company released the LaCrosse.
