About The DS3
The Citroen DS3 first appeared in 2009 as a replacement for both the C2 and the C3 supermini lines.
To create it Citroen took the PSA PF1 platform that is used under the Peugeot 2008 and the Opel/Vauxhall Crossland X as a base.
They applied the “DS” name to it as the first model in their new luxury range that would then be spun off into its own brand within just a few years.
It would be followed by the DS4 and the DS5 and all of them were marketed without Citroen badges following the year 2016.
Customers had the option of one of four gasoline engines and two turbodiesels with either a manual or automatic gearbox mated to them.
In 2012 production of a convertible version (called the DS3 Cabrio) began with customers getting delivery in the 2013 model year.
This convertible flavor of the car still had the same pillars running down the side but with a removable fabric sunroof down the middle.
To capitalize on the DS3’s success in rally motorsport events a performance version of the car was released called the DS3 Racing.
This DS3 Racing model had a tuned engine producing 207bhp and could reach 62mph in 6.5 seconds.
Outside, the performance trim stood out from the standard version thanks to sporty flare such as carbon fiber arches and orange-colored details.
This car was eventually replaced by the crossover SUV version called the DS3 Crossback bearing the same name but a different platform.
