About The i40
Much like the Kia Ceed, the i40 is a European-only model from Hyundai designed exclusively for that region.
Underneath is the same chassis used under the Sonata, essentially the North American-focused version of this car.
Production of the i40 began in 2011, taking place in South Korea and Russia for export to the Western continent as well as being sold in its home country too.
It was first released as an estate model but in 2012 a saloon version of the car was then introduced.
After the saloon version was introduced Hyundai made the decision to start selling the i40 in Australia and New Zealand.
This selling of the car in the Australasia continent continued until 2019 when it was pulled due to lack of sales.
Safety scores for the car are high with Euro NCAP awarding it five out of five stars in 2011 with occupant safety scoring relatively high.
Buyers could choose from one of four engines with both gasoline and diesel options mated to automatic and manual gearboxes.
In 2020 the i40 was discontinued in the rest of the world due to slowing demand for saloons like this one.
