About The Altea

The SEAT Altea is a compact multipurpose vehicle that was manufactured by SEAT between 2004 and 2015. During this time, the Spanish company only released a single generation.

This model had a 5-door hatchback layout and was propelled by a front-wheel drivetrain. The top-tier versions came with four-wheel drive. This was built on the Volkswagen Group A5 platform.

It shared a number of similarities with the VW Golf Plus. Competition from outside the group includes the Kia Ceed, Kia Sportage, and Hyundai Tucson, depending on the version.

The six trim levels include the base Essence, Reference, Reference Sport, Stylance, Sport, and FR-Line.

Additionally, there were two other notable versions called the Altea Freetrack and Altea XL. The XL version was simply a longer version of the original version to increase luggage space. The Freetrack, based on the XL, was designed to compete as a compact SUV rather than an MPV.

Powertrains included various petrol and diesel engines. There was also a single LPG version. Petrol engines typically ranged from 1.2-liter to 2-liter TSI inline-4 engines. The TDI diesel engines started at 1.6-liter configurations and went up to a 2-liter version fitted with a diesel particulate filter.

Transmissions included both a 5-speed and 6-speed manual option, as well as various direct-shift gearbox versions. These consisted of a 5-speed, 6-speed, and 7-speed option depending on the desired engine.

In accordance with the global increase in popularity of SUVs and crossovers, the SEAT Altea was discontinued as sales dwindled. The SEAT Ateca is considered by many to be the pseudo-successor.
