About The Cupra Terramar
The Cupra Terramar is a sharply styled compact crossover SUV said to be the spiritual successor to the Cupra Ateca.
This mild-hybrid/plug-in-hybrid SUV is named after the Autódromo de Sitges-Terramar – a former race track just outside Barcelona, Spain. It is the fourth oldest surviving race track in the world.
The Terramar was also unveiled in December 2022 and is expected to be launched in Europe in 2024. Cupra says that the Terramar will be the last combustion-engined vehicle it will make; it plans to go all-electric by 2030.
The Terramar is scheduled to be built at the Audi Hungaria factory in Győr, Hungary and is based on the MQB Evo Platform. It will likely share its underpinnings with several Audi vehicles like the Q3 and A3.
At 4,500 mm in length, the Terramar is 114 mm longer than the Ateca and matches larger offerings in this segment, like the Hyundai Tucson PHEV and Kia Sportage PHEV. Therefore, expect a roomy passenger compartment and substantial cargo-carrying capacity.
Also worth noting is that the Terramar will feature new hybrid powertrain technology that will enable it to deliver up to 100 km (62 miles) of driving range in pure-electric mode. That sets it at the top of its compact plug-in hybrid SUV segment in terms of EV range, with its closest competitors being the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque PHEV at 82 km (51 miles) and Toyota RAV4 Prime at 67 km (42 miles).
Cupra hasn’t announced any powertrain specifications yet for the Terramar, but being a performance-oriented SUV, it is expected to have noteworthy performance figures.
