2023 Santa Fe

Hyundai Santa Fe Photo

The Hyundai Santa Fe suffers heavily from middle child syndrome, as it is often overlooked. It is not getting as much recognition as its siblings on both sides: the larger, three-row Palisade and the smaller compact, the Tucson. However, the midsize Santa Fe is a capable nameplate in its own right, offering a decent value proposition, desirable interior features, and several powertrain options.

The 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe carries over largely unchanged from last year, with the majority of changes coming as part of a reshuffling of the standard equipment available across its trim levels.

The most notable of these changes is that Hyundai ditches the SEL Convenience package, opting to standardize most of its features in the SEL trim. The new Santa Fe SEL now comes standard with a 10.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit (which also now appears on all hybrid models,) navigation-based adaptive cruise control, leather wrapping on the steering wheels, and rear sunshades.

Also new are acoustic-laminated front windows on the SE trim and Hyundai's Highway Driving Assist semi-autonomous drive mode on the plug-in hybrid model.

Elsewhere, the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe remains the same two-row midsize SUV with a powertrain for everyone.

The base equipment under the hood is an uninspiring 191-horsepower inline-four-cylinder engine that is best avoided if you want any excitement with your driving experience. The beefier 277-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder offers a level of performance that is not even in the same atmosphere and is a must-have if you require more pleasant and engaging road manners. Both engines come with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and you can kit them with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

Alternatively, you can opt for either of the hybrid versions of the 2023 Santa Fe: a 226-horsepower mild hybrid or a 260-horsepower plug-in hybrid setup. The hybrids come standard with all-wheel drive and a six-speed automatic transmission.
