The 5008 is a sleek, spacious seven-seat SUV designed to compete with space monsters like the Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace.

There are no changes to the 2023 iteration of this nameplate either, as it remains what you get when you want all the benefits of a functional multi-purpose vehicle without losing all of your street cred. Though the 5008 does pack decent exterior SUV aesthetics, at its core, it channels the spirit of a people carrier, maximizing practicality over all else.

Roominess is the Peugeot 5008’s strongest suit, and it comes with plenty for everyone. The middle row has ample head and legroom, and the flat floor means no one has to fight for foot space. The optional panoramic roof, however, will reduce some of the headroom, so you want to steer clear of this option if you are in the top decile of the height distribution.

The 5008 is essentially a large and practical seven-seat MPV, but it has been given an SUV makeover to make it more appealing, providing the same spacious cabin style without featuring an entirely boxy exterior or being as bulky as options like the Ford S-Max and Volkswagen Touran. It has a distinctive front end with sharp headlights, fang-shaped LED lights, and a wide grille that combines for a decently macho look and help shut down all protests aimed at its secret identity.

Along the sides, the Peugeot 5008 manages to hide its length well with chrome accents and roof rails, while the rear lights have a vertical design that sets it apart. The only downside is the fake exhaust tips at the back, which look cheap and unnecessary.

Under the hood, your options are either a 1.2-litre three-cylinder gasoline engine or a more economical 1.5-litre four-cylinder diesel mild hybrid. Both engines feature a similar performance profile, outputting around 130 horsepower. While both engines have an eight-speed automatic transmission, only the diesel hybrid can be mated with an optional six-speed intelligent manual gearbox.
