The Peugeot 5008 started life back in 2009 as a minivan that evolved into a crossover SUV in 2017 as part of a facelift and redesign. That of course was part of a larger market evolution towards crossovers and SUVs in the wider automotive market.

The 5008 was marketed as an affordable 7-seater SUV for large families or those who need the capacity of a minivan but the looks of an SUV. The rear seating is stored in the trunk space and can be folded up if and when needed.

The 5008 received a further facelift in 2020, getting changes to the lights making them LED and adding scrolling indicators, enhancing the front grille, and making some other minor exterior improvements and added detailing.

The interior also received a smaller steering wheel as part of the overall i-Cockpit dashboard upgrade where the instruments are set above the wheel rather than behind it. Not everyone liked that change, but they love the abundance of soft-touch materials and the general high-quality feel of the interior. If you like the idea, there’s a red leather interior available.

The base-level 5008 gets an 8-inch infotainment system, but it’s possible to upgrade to a 10-inch screen, the systems in all of which were updated for 2021. It’s a pure touchscreen interface, but the dash also includes some piano-key style shortcut keys underneath.

Interior storage is practical and plentiful, and the rear seating area features a flat floor so it's comfortable for all three passengers in the second row, where seating can be individually shifted or reclined.

The 5008 is powered either by a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbo gasoline engine delivering 131-hp and either manual or automatic transmission. Alternatively, there’s a 1.6L 4-cylinder engine outputting up to 181-hp, or a 1.5L diesel option outputting 131-hp, and a 2.0L diesel getting up to 177-hp (automatic only). All drivetrains are FWD.

You can find many of the same engine choices and features available with its sibling models that share its platforms such as the Citroen C5 Aircross and the Opel Grandland.
