About The RZ

The Lexus RZ is a fully-electric crossover that will be manufactured by Toyota’s luxury division. It is planned to make its North American debut in 2023. It marks the first-ever dedicated fully-electric model released by the Japanese manufacturer.

The model sits in the subcompact luxury crossover SUV class. As such, it features the 5-door layout typically found in the class.

In the ever-increasingly competitive electric crossover group, the RZ goes up against the likes of the Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I Pace, and of course, its Toyota sibling, the bZ4X.

Interestingly, it will share a number of components with the bZ4X and Subaru Solterra like the same platform and the same powertrain.

Lexus has reported that it will come with dual motors that provide power to the Direct4 all-wheel drive system as standard, all of which will be built on the e-TNGA platform from Toyota.

The only trim option planned for release is the 450e. However, this version will come with six exterior and three interior color options.

The electric powertrain is powered by a 71.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and is capable of delivering 230 kW. This will be supplied by a single 150 kW and 80 kW AC permanent magnet synchronous motors in the front and rear respectively.

Lexus has reported an estimated range of approximately 450 km at cruising speeds. However, real-world estimates are expected to be closer to 360 km. Plug-in charging capabilities are capped at 150 kW through a DC source. This means it will be able to charge to approximately 80% in just one hour.

The transmission system on the Lexus RZ will be the eAxle.
