Mazda’s 2024 lineup welcomes a new nameplate, the Mazda CX-90, which replaces the Cx-9 that gets discontinued after the 2023 model year.
The CX-9 was already an impressive family SUV in its own right, endearing itself to the unique set of buyers in this market segment that favor a more sporty driving experience over purely practical leanings.
What the 2023 Cx-9 lacked in roominess and practicality, it made up for in enhanced, satisfying driving prowess and a more luxurious interior than its closest competitors like the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade. This all-new 2024 Mazda CX-90 takes this ethos further, with the same engaging road manners paired with more serious luxury ambitions.
The significantly more premium CX-90 boasts a more luxurious feel than all other current Mazda SUVs, signaling the brand’s intention to jump into a higher affluent weight class. The handsome interior styling matches the upscale exterior with a popping dash and matching top-tier upholstery and fittings.
On the range-topping Premium Plus trim, you get eye-catching and ultra-plush Nappa leather upholstery on the dashboard and seat that would hold its own against what you will find in many dedicated luxury SUVs. The lower Preferred trim comes with premium leather as standard, and even the less cushy base Select model still manages to impress in this department.
Similar to other family SUVs, the 2024 Mazda CX-90 is a three-row SUV that seats a maximum of eight. With the optional captain’s chairs for the second row, the seating capacity drops to seven.
This new CX-90 also comes with changes in the powertrain department. The new nameplate is the first from the brand to launch with a new 3.3-liter inline-six turbocharged (the same format you get in industry-leading SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne, Land Rover Range Rover Sport, and BMW X5) engine coupled with a 48-volt hybrid system.
The official figures from Mazda on this setup’s capabilities are 340 horsepower on the range-topping trims and a decent 280 horsepower on the lower models.
All 2024 Mazda CX-90 trims feature an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive as standard offerings, as you would expect from a high-end Mazda.
