About The Tonale

The Tonale model, internally known as the Type 965, first made its debut in 2022. Of course, this means only a single generation has been released as of yet.

It represents the first new model to be released by Alfa Romeo in six years. For the North American market, a rebadged and restyled version called the Dodge Hornet was unveiled in the same year.

The model got its name, like many other Alfa Romeo vehicles, from a place in Italy. This time around, the 5-door crossover SUV was named after the Tonale mountain pass.

It is no secret that the compact crossover class has become highly competitive. This means that the model goes up some very notable names like the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA.

The Tonale sits on top of the FCA Small Wide 4×4 platform and is driven by either a front-wheel or all-wheel drivetrain. Both of these are powered by a front-mounted engine. This is due to the fact that it shares a number of systems and components with its corporate cousin, the Jeep Compass.

Powertrain options consist of standard diesel and petrol configurations, as well as mild and plug-in hybrid powertrains. All of these engines, which range in size from 1.3 L to 2.0 L, are turbocharged inline-4s. The plug-in variants are outfitted with a 48 V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.8 kWh.

Power outputs range between 127 and 271 hp or 95 and 203 kW respecitvely for the front-wheel and all-wheel drives respectively.

Transmission options range from a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic to a 9-speed automatic for the largest engine configuration.
