About The Adam/Alex
The Opel Adam is a city car that was sold by German manufacturer Opel between 2012 and 2019.
The model was heavily stylized, which was often leaned on for its marketing campaign. One of the most notable outcomes of this was just how personalized it can be through the various trim options. This was one of Opel’s priorities when it came to taking on the more popular models in the class like the Mini One, Fiat 500, and Volkswagen Up!
Marketing for the model often claimed more than 61,000 unique configurations meant that each customer would more than likely have a one-of-a-kind Adam. These were based on the three different trim levels, being Standard, Jam, and Glam.
Powertrain options consist of only petrol engines. These consist of a turbocharged 1.0 L inline-3, as well as a naturally-aspirated 1.2 L and 1.4 L inline-4.
The largest engine was found only in the Adam S variant, which was a fully street-legal version of the Adam R2 rally car.
These engines were mated with either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed Easytronic automated manual gearbox.
The Adam managed to win some critical acclaim during its time on the market, particularly on release. The most notable of these was winning the Red Dot Car Design of the Year in 2013. It was also voted the number one city car by Auto Zeitung magazine in 2012.
Unfortunately for the model, Opel announced plans to discontinue it with the intention to focus on the ever-popular SUV market. While not a direct successor, there are clear similarities with the Opel Mokka.
