2006 Golf
- Manufacturer: Volkswagen
- Model: Golf
The 2006 Volkswagen Golf is part of the fifth-generation of design that first came onto the market in the 2004 model year.
It is classed as a compact car or a small family car with a wide range of body styles and drivetrains underneath.
The car is based on the A5 platform that is also used across various other model lines including:
Just to name a few.
This model was branded in the USA as the Rabbit, a name used over there at various times throughout the Golf's life.
The Golf Plus mentioned above was first put on sale during this 2006 model year and acted as a crossover SUV version of this compact car.
2006 also marked the first year that the GTI version of the car hit the market.
This GTI trim for the Golf added a turbocharged 2-liter gasoline engine with either a manual or direct-shift gearbox attached to it.
Buyers could choose between 3 or 5 doors on their 2006 GTI Golf - in the USA the model was simply known as the "GTI" without the Rabbit name appearing on it.
Later on in 2006, the GTI version also saw a special edition "Edition 30" version go on sale that had a slightly more powerful engine and small changes to the exterior styling.
