2017 4Runner
When the Toyota 4Runner made its first appearance in the early-1980s it was being assembled in just the USA.
It was also classed as a compact SUV and built upon the Hilux pickup truck chassis with the rear suspension stiffened to deal with the extra weight from the body.
Towards the end of the 1980s, the 4Runner range was expanded from being just available as a 3-door to now being offered in a 5-door configuration with 2 rows of seating.
In the mid-1990s the range was switched to being just available as a 5-door and the 4Runner was reclassed as a mid-size SUV.
This reclassification happened due to the increase in size with the wheelbase gaining 2 inches in length.
2017 Toyota 4Runners are examples of the SUVs fifth-generation that came in during 2009 with the manufacturing of this model taking place exclusively in Japan.
For the 2017 model year, the Trail and Trail Premium trims were renamed TRD Off-Road and TRD Off-Road Premium in the USA.
These new trims do not share the premium suspension of the TRD Pro trim but do add new aesthetics to the truck.
