The Toyota 4Runner is a car built for off-roading adventures. Those who don’t go off of paved roads may therefore find it dull and boring. But for those who love to adventure, the 4Runner is a great choice.

This 2018 model saw relatively little change from the 2017 version. New features include Blue and Black metallic paint options, and some updated equipment packages. Otherwise, the 4Runner has kept the same features as its predecessors.

Under the hood, you’ll find a 4-liter V6 paired with a 5-speed automatic. Despite this engine’s size, the 4Runner feels far from fast on the road. Coupled with the big wheels and suspension, and road driving feels sluggish and slow, especially compared to competing models such as the Dodge Durango.

Off-road, however, the 4Runner’s engine is a perfect choice. Its size allows for great amounts of toque, helping drivers to get over almost any obstacle put in front of them. On the beaten track, it’ll also feel much more agile and responsive, because the SUV is built to leave the road.

Its interior looks primitive at first glance. A plastic trim, that’s basic at best, is pretty much all you’ll find inside. This does serve a function, however. Plastic is much easier to clean than leather or any other material, and your interior is bound to get dirty when off-roading. So, the 4Runner carries on its design of function over fashion on the interior. There’s also a decent amount of room inside, making the car perfect for carrying lots of cargo.

Some common problems with the 4Runner include poor build quality. Many drivers have reported rust on the exterior, and frequent dashboard cracks inside. This makes the car feel much less robust than it should be, which is the last thing you want from an off-roader. Other drivers also reported faulty airbags.
