The Volvo XC40 was released in the year before this 2019 model was and occupies the subcompact luxury crossover SUV segment of the auto market.
What makes it a crossover SUV is the fact that the chassis would be more at home on a normal road-going car than a traditional SUV.
The lack of off-road equipment means that the XC40 is lightweight but still has the benefits of a roomy interior and a great view of the road and surroundings.
Customers can buy the car as a front-wheel-drive or upgrade it to a four-wheel-drive at the sacrifice of fuel-economy slightly.
All 2019 models are fitted with the latest safety technology from Volvo that they have branded "Intellisafe", a system powered by many sensors fed to a computer.
An all-electric version of the car was revealed in 2019, although this "Recharge" model won't go on sale until 2020.
