Nissan may not have been the inventors of the electric car, but their all-electric LEAF was certainly the trailblazer that made BEVs viable for the mainstream back in 2011.

The newest iteration starts at $27,400 before Federal tax credits, and offers up to 226 miles of all-electric range and battery sizes of up to 62 kWh.

One important change is that the CHAdeMO quick-charging port is now standard across the entire LEAF lineup in the 2022 model year.

There are 5 trims in total: S, SV, S Plus, SV Plus and SL Plus (the latter starts at $37,400).

The bottom two trims come with a 40 kWH battery capacity which offers 150 miles of range. A larger 62 kWh battery is available on all Plus models and offers up to 226 miles of range.

Standard features include Nissan’s much-lauded e-pedal technology which paved the way for many cars to now work on “one-pedal” driving mode.

Drivers can start, brake and stop just by depressing and lifting the smart e-pedal.

Regenerative braking works automatically and means drivers don’t have to jump between the gas and the brake pedals.

Nissan has tried to make the 2022 LEAF more stylishly appointed with 17” machine-finished aluminum-alloy wheels, leather-appointed seats and other tweaks.

Other premium features include Bose audio, and Nissan’s ProPILOT Assist features (that you can also find in the Rogue and the Altima).

ProPILOT Assist is Nissan’s semi-autonomous driving tech. It’s available on the SV, SV Plus and SL trims in the Technology package, but standard on the SL Plus.

Other ADAS features include blind-spot warning, automatic braking and pedestrian detection, rear cross-traffic alert, high beam assist and others.

The LEAF remains practical, with up to 30 cubic feet of rear cargo space if you fold the rear seats down. With the seats up you get 23.6 cubic feet, which outperforms even the Chevy Bolt EUV.
