For a brand terrible at naming its cars, one of the few nameplates that have stayed consistent and remained unconfusing is the Peugeot 208.

For 2023, this trusty model gets a mid-lifecycle refresh that brings some aesthetic updates to bolster its competitiveness in today's market further. With other small cars like the Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Polo, and Seat Ibiza offering stiff competition to the 208—especially in Europe—it is no surprise that Peugeot continues to update this unit, which ranks as one of its bestsellers, as often as it can.

Since its switch to a new generation in 2019, the 208 has been a revelation for the French brand, consistently posting impressive sales records, and with the update to this new model, we expect this status quo to continue. The 2023 Peugeot 208 brings aesthetic enhancements that bring it in line with Peugeot's newest nameplates, as well as some mechanical and cabin tech upgrades.

Immediately evident with the new supermini’s exterior is the switch to Peugeot’s new shield emblem that sits squarely at the center of the reconceptualized front grill. Peugeot also incorporates other aspects of its new design language, including the newer, more contemporary lighting elements and the bold three-claw signature that extends from the front bumper to the main headlamps.

Inside, the new car does not see as much change. While it features an updated infotainment unit and a facelifted digital instrument cluster, the rest of the interior maintains an identical setup from the previous year, with the only changes being the availability of new material and color options.

Under the hood, there is a slight jump in power, with the 1.2-liter engine from last year now offering an output of up to 136 horsepower in a mild hybrid format that pairs the engine with an electric motor. A lower-tune 100-HP hybrid option is also available, while the base variant of this engine has only 75 horsepower. Manual and automatic transmissions are available as options on all except the 75-HP engine, which can only ship with a manual gearbox.
