2019 QX50/QX55
The QX50 is a luxury SUV with bold design with unique features and solid value in the price point. The 2019 model was the first production year for the newly unveiled second-generation model, the J55. It brought a number of changes, including exterior styling, an improved interior and a brand-new powertrain. It was regarded as a very positive upgrade from the previous generation.
It is intended to compete with the likes of the Lexus RX in the compact luxury crossover SUV market although this example is noticeably wider than it.
The QX50 included 3 trim levels priced from $37,675 to $44,475 as the starting rates. The trims included Pure, Luxe, and Essential. A new variant, the QX55, was introduced in 2021 for the 2022 model year. The QX55 included more of a coupe-style exterior, characterized most obviously by the sloping roof.
Both QX50 and QX55 were powered by a 4-cylinder 2.0L engine outputting a pleasing 268-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. That powertrain is paired with a CVT for the transmission, and AWD is optional on all models, but will cost up to $1800 extra.
The powertrain technology has been much praised for its power and efficiency. The QX50 seamlessly shifts from quiet and steady city-street driving to high-power and high-speed highway conditions. The only downside is the noise, which compared to some others in its class is a bit much.
The QX50 and QX55 weren’t just built for stylish city driving. Infiniti offered a towing package that delivered an augmented towing capacity of up to 3,000-lbs. They handle well on all kinds of roads, but you can tell that the car was mostly built with a priority on comfort. Steering is responsive, but experienced drivers will likely have had better.
Interior options are very generous, including sumptuous quilted leather seats, wood trims and a headliner of faux-suede for a real upmarket feel. You do have to climb high on the trim ladder to get these, however. There’s a dual-screen infotainment system, available premium audio from Bose, and plenty of USB and power outlets. Sadly, there’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Autio.
