2018 Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma Photo

The 2018 Toyota Tacoma is a mid-size pickup that aims to distinguish itself from its rivals by being playful, rather than sophisticated. The 2018 model is simply brilliant when you take it off the beaten track and has one of the best towing capacities out of any pickup on the market. However, the Tacoma does fall short in some key areas, like handling on-road and in terms of the interior.

Ultimately, if you’re an off-roader, the 2018 Tacoma is probably the best mid-size pickup to get, beating the likes of the Honda Ridgeline and Chevrolet Colorado. However, if you’re not going to go offroad much, the Tacoma probably isn’t the best choice for you.

The 2018 model makes one major change to the 2017 Toyota Tacoma. This is the addition of standard safety features, such as automated emergency braking, adaptive cruise control and lane-departure warnings. This is a great move from Toyota and makes the 2018 Tacoma a very safe car to drive.

Under the hood, the standard Tacoma is equipped with a 2.7-liter incline four-cylinder engine which produces 159 horsepower. This might look like a small number, and it is. The base model is significantly down on power when compared to rivals like the GMC Canyon. Luckily, buyers can opt for a 3.5-liter V6, which produces a much more respectable 278 horsepower. This engine feels much more capable overall and is certainly worth the extra money.

The ride of the Toyota Tacoma is a mixed bag. Once you get yourself offroad, it feels great. The suspension will soak up the terrain and cope brilliantly over hills and tough surfaces. The steering likewise feels reliable and sharp. On the road, however, the Tacoma isn’t as refined as its rivals. It can be loud, and the suspension can compromise everyday performance.
