About The Solterra
The Subaru Solterra is a rebadged version of the Toyota bZ4X, the name of which refers to the Toyota and Subaru jointly developed “bZ” – beyond zero – range of zero-emissions cars. Toyota’s models will carry the ‘bZ’ badge while Subaru equivalents will get different Subaru badging. The Subaru Solterra will compete in an increasingly tight and tough electric crossover segment, containing the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Mustang Mach-e and others. It is set for release for the 2023 model year.
Among the many unique features of the Solterra is an additional button on the key fob that allows you to quickly and easily activate the car’s air conditioning system before you get in — very useful if you’re driving this car in a hot climate like Florida, Arizona, or southern California. The exterior features angular, quite aggressive body lines and a sporty and adventurous demeanor overall.
When you get into the Solterra as the driver, the most noticeable thing is that the digital instrument cluster is placed a lot higher up on the dashboard than you might expect. This provides the benefit of delivering your drive information much closer to your natural line of sight as a driver. Some reviewers have pointed out, however, that in order to maintain a visual on the cluster, taller drivers may have to avoid adjusting the steering wheel so high, which might mean a tighter fit in the cockpit when it comes to knee room.
Other useful internal features include wireless charging, a rotary gear shift, cloth-covered dashboard, a large infotainment screen on the center console and more. For those who want to take their Solterra electric crossover off road, they can do so by using the snow or mud drive modes. These can be activated by pressing a single button on the dash. Subaru is hoping to use these drive modes, along with other features like hill start assist, descent control and standard AWD, to help market the car to those looking for a more capable EV.
