2017 Sedona
While the Sedona does not have the chops (or reputation) to match segment leaders like the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Chrysler Pacifica, it does provide a significant practical step up from many mid-size SUVs. It also provides a decent contender in its minivan class.
For 2017, the Kia Sedona retains everything that makes it an attractive proposition: it is a capable minivan that provides considerably more space than smaller compact options and comfortable seating for up to 8 passengers (with a bench third-row seat.) The Sedona also boasts a planted feel, comfortable handling, and respectable agility, thanks to its fairly strong V6 engine.
Updates to the new release are minimal, with the only notable changes being the addition of automatic emergency braking to the existing list of driving safety features and support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with the new infotainment setup.
Like other vehicles in its category, the Kia Sedona ships with three rows of seats and a cabin oriented toward functional over form.
However, a significant pitfall of the Sedona’s setup in this department is that only the last row of seats can be removed, as the second row is set in its place. While this problem is easy to overlook for most, others who intend to push the practicality of their minivans to the limit may have more reservations. The new Sedona also returns relatively subpar fuel economy compared with some class leaders.
Nevertheless, the 2017 Kia Sedona does impress with its engaging driving character and its ample single-powertrain option: a 3.3-liter V-6 that produces 276 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque and pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission.
