In the year 2000 Nissan introduced the world to the X-Trail, a compact crossover SUV.

It was based on the FF-S platform that was already put to use on the Primera, Sentra and Almera.

You could buy the X-Trail as a front-wheel-drive as standard but if desired you could upgrade to a four-wheel-drive chassis.

It continued to be built on this platform until 2007 when the second generation became available and now it shared its platform with other crossover SUVs.

The Qashqai and Rogue were all built using this new purpose-built "C" platform, engine options were limited to 2 gasoline and 1 diesel option.

In 2013 the third generation entered showrooms which this 2017 model is a part of.

Again, the X-Trail was moved onto an even more purpose-built chassis called the CMF-C/D that is only shared with the Qashqai and the badge-engineered Renault Koleos.

With this change, you could now choose a much wider range of engines for your 2017 model including a hybrid with regenerative braking.

2017 X-Trails also benefit from a facelift occurring in that year bringing restyled lights all around with daytime running LEDs.

You can learn all about these new changes in the 2017 Nissan X-Trail owner’s manual embedded on this page in PDF format.

It is easily downloaded or viewed using your browser - you can even print it out and keep a physical copy in your car.
