Production of the Toyota Highlander began in the year 2000 for the 2001 model year.

It's a mid-size crossover SUV that was brought in to take on the newly formed segment of the auto market started by the BMW X5.

It was the most popular SUV sold by the Japanese automaker until the RAV4 compact crossover SUV was refined in 2006, becoming its best-selling SUV going forward.

Sat underneath it is the same chassis that is used underneath the Camry model, showing just how much it is designed for on-road use.

In Japan and Australia, Hyundai owns the rights to the Highlander name and so the model is sold there as the Kluger.

At various points of its production, the car has been sold with a 7-seat option but most of the models have just 5-seats in them.

This 2018 model is one of the last of the third-generation that was introduced in 2013 and benefits from a recent facelift.

That facelift was applied the previous model year brought with it a new 8-speed automatic transmission to replace the 6-speed version before.

A variety of new trims were introduced as well to help the customer customize the Highlander to exactly how they require it.
