The world of crossover SUVs is easily the most competitive one in the automotive marketplace. Every company is striving to create. The 2019 Mazda CX-3 was a very competitive and spirited model indeed, welcoming a lot of updates in that model year that gave it a much-needed boost amongst the competition.
The exterior of the CX-3 received a nice facelift, getting a new grille, new accents, new LED taillights and new wheel designs in 18-inch rims. The interior too received revamped storage spaces, a better center armrest with new cup holders, plusher seats and more. It was a positive refresh that went down a storm with buyers.
The 3 trim levels were the Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring, priced from $21,435 to $26,790. The standard powertrain is a 2.0L 4-cylinder unit outputting up to 148-hp and getting 29-mpg in the city and 34-mpg on the highway, which is impressive for any kind of SUV mode.
It is built upon the same chassis as the small Mazda2 standard road-going car but with a much taller body complete with a higher driver sitting position.
On the road, the words to describe the CX-3’s drive include athletic, fun, dynamic, sporty and lively. You can throw it around corners with minimum body roll while the well-tuned suspension keeps everything comfortable and pleasant. It’s a car that most people start to drive slowly when they first get it, but get bolder and more confident the more they see what it can do.
On the inside, the car feels surprisingly upmarket when compared to its price point. There’s a 7-inch infotainment screen, an attractive contoured dash, and even an optional head-up display on Grand Touring models giving you speed and navigation information.
The main criticism of the CX-3 is that passenger and cargo space are a bit of a squeeze. The seating and appointment of the interior is nice, but if you have a car full of adults it’s not the best on a long journey. For those looking for a city-friendly dynamic crossover, though, the 2019 CX-3 is an amazing choice.
